About The Book:

ONE LOVE STORY. TWO MARRIAGES. THREE VERSIONS OF THE TRUTH.

Too Good to Be True is an obsessive, addictive love story for fans of Lisa Jewell and The Wife Upstairs, from Carola Lovering, the beloved author of Tell Me Lies.

Skye Starling is overjoyed when her boyfriend, Burke Michaels, proposes after a whirlwind courtship. Though Skye seems to have the world at her fingertips—she’s smart, beautiful, and from a well-off family—she’s also battled crippling OCD ever since her mother’s death when she was eleven, and her romantic relationships have suffered as a result.

But now Burke—handsome, older, and more emotionally mature than any man she’s met before—says he wants her. Forever. Except, Burke isn’t who he claims to be. And interspersed letters to his therapist reveal the truth: he’s happily married, and using Skye for his own, deceptive ends.

In a third perspective, set thirty years earlier, a scrappy seventeen-year-old named Heather is determined to end things with Burke, a local bad boy, and make a better life for herself in New York City. But can her adolescent love stay firmly in her past—or will he find his way into her future?

On a collision course she doesn’t see coming, Skye throws herself into wedding planning, as Burke’s scheme grows ever more twisted. But of course, even the best laid plans can go astray. And just when you think you know where this story is going, you’ll discover that there’s more than one way to spin the truth.

Adele’s Review:

Brilliant! A must-read! Carola Lovering’s Too Good To Be True is a highly original revenge thriller that’s fast paced and beautifully written, with plot twists I never saw coming. The antagonists are diabolical, and the protagonist (with the terrific name Skye Starling), is someone I rooted for to the last page. I couldn’t put this book down. Don’t miss this one!

Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press (who often publish my favorite books!) and NetGalley for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Here’s a little about the book:

The powers of love and trust are their only weapons.

Hunter’s cousin is celebrating a birthday with a destination party at an ancient cave. Hunter hasn’t seen Angela since her return trip from Eastern Europe, and she’s family, so he’s obligated to go.

Though his relationship with his girlfriend Rosa might be heading for a break-up, Hunter invites her to join him, hoping for a chance at reconciliation. When they arrive, Angela’s other guests find Hunter and Rosa particularly…interesting. What happens next will test their fragile bond to its limits when the powers of love and trust become their only weapons against dark forces gathering around them.

“Adele Downs has presented something fresh and new.” 5 Stars! Reader’s Favorite

“Completely unexpected and riveting.” (Houston Chronicle)

Even good people are drawn to do evil things … Twelve-year-old Rain Winter narrowly escaped an abduction while walking to a friend’s house. Her two best friends, Tess and Hank, were not as lucky. Tess never came home, and Hank was held in captivity before managing to escape. Their abductor was sent to prison but years later was released. Then someone delivered real justice–and killed him in cold blood.

Now Rain is living the perfect suburban life, her dark childhood buried deep. She spends her days as a stay-at-home mom, having put aside her career as a hard-hitting journalist to care for her infant daughter. But when another brutal murderer who escaped justice is found dead, Rain is unexpectedly drawn into the case. Eerie similarities to the murder of her friends’ abductor force Rain to revisit memories she’s worked hard to leave behind. Is there a vigilante at work? Who is the next target? Why can’t Rain just let it go?

Introducing one of the most compelling and original killers in crime fiction today, Lisa Unger takes readers deep inside the minds of both perpetrator and victim, blurring the lines between right and wrong, crime and justice, and showing that sometimes people deserve what comes to them.

Adele’s Review:

5 Stars!

Lisa Unger is an auto-buy author for me. Her thrillers are not only well-crafted and entertaining, her writing skills put her at the top of her genre. Reading Lisa Unger is like taking a Master Class in creative writing.

Her newest release, The Stranger Inside, might be her best book yet. This compulsive page turner kept me guessing until the very last page and made me wonder if we’ll see protagonist and new mother Rain Winter in a future book. I hope so. This could be the start of a compelling new series although the book stands well on its own.

Loved this one. Bought the book on Amazon.
